Respiratory CPAP and BiPAP for ILWU or PPO insurance

Most PPO ILWU insurances cover for CPAP and BiPAP machines for ILWU patients that have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. When a patient is suspected with sleep apnea, he/she will need to have a sleep study. Sleep studies are often done in a professional sleep lab under the guidance of a pulmonary sleep specialist physician. Once the sleep study is completed, you will need to go see your sleep specialist physician for a final diagnosis. Once diagnosed with sleep apnea, you will need a CPAP or BiPAP machine to help aid in a good night’s rest. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. BiPAP stands for, Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure. Your sleep specialists physician (pulmonologist) will let you know what you need based on your sleep study test results and will give you a prescription for a CPAP or BiPAP machine along with the supplies. You will need to show a minimum compliance of 90 days for CPAP or BiPAP usage. Contact us to get scheduled for you sleep study if you suspect any sleep apnea symptoms.

The signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas overlap, sometimes making it difficult to determine which type you have. The most common signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas include:

  • Loud snoring

  • Episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep — which would be reported by another person

  • Gasping for air during sleep

  • Awakening with a dry mouth

  • Morning headache

  • Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)

  • Difficulty paying attention while awake

  • Irritability

When to see a doctor:

Loud snoring can indicate a potentially serious problem, but not everyone who has sleep apnea snores. Talk to your doctor if you have signs or symptoms of sleep apnea. Ask your doctor about any sleep problem that leaves you fatigued, sleepy and irritable.
